Recompile apps schema

We are using ebs version 12.1.3

Currently we are working with oracle support for one of our issues. We are still relatively new to ebs.

I have a question, to recompile apps schema, do I need to do adstpall.sh to stop the application server before launch adadmin? Or, can I recompile apps schema when the application is still in use? Gurus, please advise. Thank you very much.
