Applying RPC for Financials during technical upgrade from 11i to R12

We are planning to apply the RPC for Financials during the technical upgrade testing. We upgraded the development instance to R12.1.3 and asked our dba's to apply the patches mentioned in note# 954704.1. But it took 10 Hrs to apply 3 patches and we asked them to rollback the patches as we can't afford another day of downtime during production upgrade to apply these patches. Does any one has any experience applying these patches during upgrade? Is there any way to apply these pacthes in under 4 Hrs?
