LPN displays () after it in Material Workbench

Hi

Every once in awhile (seems to be a couple times a week), we get an LPN in our Material Workbench that has parenthesis () displayed after the name, i.e. B835 (). We then have to unpack it and pack it into another LPN before we can do any further transactions on it.  I didn't have much luck searching through Metalink...I'm just curious if anyone else has ever came across this and figured out the cause?  When we query the actual table (wms.wms_license_plate_numbers), the license_plate_number just shows as B835. We are on R12.1.3.  These LPNs are shipped out of one org into another
