Number format issue in Excel output

Hi Experts,
I have a xml publisher report set for excel output. The report has to show amounts and totals in the end.
The figures show correctly if the Territory is UK or America. But it does not show totals when Territory is Germany because then the numbers show in different format ( #.###,00) which are not recognized as numbers in XHTML ( excel output) generated.
 Any idea how we can fix this?
