 Hi,There are 1,396 lines reporting the latch “cache buffers chains” in the Child Latch Statistics STATSPACK section.

A colleague told me this can be an indication of contention and that I can get over it adding free list to the index and tables.

I cannot understand this report’s section, Can you help me?

My database is 9.2.0.4. My Operating system is Solaris 10.

The Top Five Events are:

Top 5 Timed Events

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~                                                     % Total
Event                                               Waits    Time (s)      Ela Time
------------------------------------------------------- ----------- --------
CPU time                                                           21,271    78.34
PX qref latch                                       2,262       1,300     4.79
PX Deq: Execute Reply                      16,429         801     2.95
SQL*Net message from dblink             1,739         799     2.94
db file parallel write                              6,371         414     1.53
          -------------------------------------------------------------
As you can see the latch free is not in the 5 top events. Latch free appears number 11 in Wait Events section.
Howdy, Stranger!
