API for customer profile

Hi,
I have an idea of interface tables and i have loaded many invoices by interface tables in oracle R12. But i havent use any API. I just want to learn how to use API .

Actually in R12 oracle, i want to change customer profile on customers by API for the specific operating unit. Kindly guide.
