At what stage node joins the cluster when boots up.

 Hello All,
I have a doubt that at what stage any node in a cluster when boots up join the cluster and get information about the existing nodes in the cluster and which process helps in identifying the same.
I believe, it's CSSD daemon which when register with Voting disk gets the information about all the active nodes in the cluster and broadcast/update its own details back for the whole cluster awareness. 
Kindly clarify the same and confirm if there is any specific process involved in this.
