Item Request Product Group - Days before expiration & Days before Delivery

Hello All,I was just digging through Item request functionality and creation of product group for this functionality. I noticed we have these 2 fields on the product group setup for the type "Item requests".
 
I know that the user guide states that "For an Item Request group, enter values for Days Before Expiration and Days Before Delivery. These values are used when the items are on store order replenishment.". 


But I was wondering in what sense are these values used... Is it in actual "Item Request" generation from the product group (use replenishment values from RMS's item_loc table that is supplied to SIM) where the system will only pick and choose from the full list of possible items defined in the product group only those that fall under these conditions?
