Closing WO Required?

When Projects module is Integrated to EAM, GL is updated via Projects  as all transactions will be routed via Project module to GL (Every WO will have Project association)So, in such scenario, what is the use of closing WO? I thought the primary purpose of closing WO is to transfer costs to GL.
