running dssetup (comm_dssetup.pl)

There is mention in the wiki that it is a best practice to run dssetup against the directory server(s) after each, or at least major, patches and upgrades applied to Messaging Server components.
  • Can this be run against a directory server that is live in production?
  • Are the special considerations for multimaster, master-consumer replication agreements?
  • In an installation that does not have Calendaring, ISS and IM (so messaging server only) is it still required to run dssetup after patches and upgrades?
  • If the DS is DSEE 6.3.1, schema 1, and being used as mentioned in the previous bullet, what exactly is expected to be changed/upgraded (oids, etc?) in the DS by dssetup
