issues connecting to serial mgmt port

i got a T2000 which i want to configure via serial mgmt port and i got a serial null modem cable too but what i learned that most of modern laptops do not have a serial port in them , including my laptop . so how do people connect to serial mgmt port ? 

I am reading that USB - serial adapters do not work or have flaws . so what other options do I have ?
