Custom Delivery Number

Hi All,
We have a requirement where in all the order fulfilment(Order will be initially created in Oracle ERP-r12) part is done in a third party system. In this system, delivery number is generated and we then need to automate picking and shipping process in Oracle ERP-r12. I would like to know if we can pick release and ship by assiging custom delivery number. If yes, how can this be achieved?
