CROSS OBJECT WORKFLOW

Is it possible to create a workflow rule with two objects? Example would be from the LEAD object to the OPPORTUNITY object. This is what I wanted, to auto populate a certain field in the Opportunity Layout, basing from the chosen picklist from the LEAD Layout, after the lead has been converted to an opportunity.
