(URGENT)Question: Will a update field action in a new record saved workflow trigger a modifed record

Hi Champs,
I have a new record saved workflow which is waiting for a date time expression and updates a field. Will this action trigger a modified record saved workflow? I have tested this in R19 instance and it is not working. Any suggestions plz..
