Cross-Platform Backup and Restore Improvements in 12c

Are there any detailed notes about the Cross-Platform Backup and Restore Improvements in 12c?

I have seen note 1534487.1 which only mentions the improvements at a high level

I assume the approach will be similar to that mentioned in Reduce Transportable Tablespace Downtime using Cross Platform Incremental Backups (Doc ID 1389592.1) which was only if your target platform was exadata.
