URGENT: Case Insensitive settings

Hi,
For "Search" area in Action bar, is it that "Case Insensitive" check-mark can't be disabled permanently because if i click on Advanced Search & uncheck this checkmark and hit save. Now, when i return to the same screen; it still shows this option as checked only.

Also, on custom object 3+ there are no blue fields which means no case insensitive search is possible? Please confirm & suggest any alternative on the same.
