Reducing downtime
Hi,
We have a 1.5 TB RAC production database which is currently running on Standard Edition 10.2.0.3. We plan to migrate this database to new hardware and upgrade the db to 11.2.0.3 on new hardware. The problem is the size of database i.e. 1.5 Tb which takes more than 24 hours to get backed up and restored on new hardware so we were thinking of the following workaround .
1.Install 10.2.0.3 on new server in other partition than 11g home
2.Create a physical standby database ahead of migration on new server and keep applying logs manually to keep it in sync with primary db
3.On the migration day, stop access to primary db on old server.
