You cannot Update an Expired Instance. Instance needs to be un-expired before any updates...document

We frequently get this error message but the solution offered in the reference doc You cannot Update an Expired Instance. Instance needs to be un-expired before any updates (Doc ID 455089.1) instructions state:

1) Determine which expired instances the erred transactions are trying to update.
a) Navigate to the error in the Transaction Errors Processing form and query up the error
b) Select the Transaction Detail button which will take you to the Installation Details form
for the order line that failed.
c) Navigate to the Non Source Transaction Details tab and note the Instance Num value.When I go to the Non Source Transaction Details tab, the Instance Num field is blank as are nearly every other field on that tab.  However, when I try to click out of the form, I get another message stating "There are Non-Source transaction line details entered without relationship with the Source transaction line details.  I am unable to leave the form normally and have to close Oracle to do anything else.
