RDBPROD: De-supported versions and upgrade

We are on an old version of Rdb which I was told is no longer supported, and have been urged to upgrade many times.

Just for background, I can support the upgrade work, but I am not positioned here to decide if or when to do one, nor do I hold the dollars. I can only suggest.

Our installation, both VMS and Rdb, have some vendor supported tweaks that may cause us some difficulities related to an upgrade. There is a lot of caution being exercised.

It's been suggested to me here that minor upgrades may move us along with minor upsets. I don't know how I can interpret that or verify it. Seems to me any change will be unknown as to where the "gotchas" are. Does such an approach make sense to you?
