The related item is not enable on the sales order form.

I am working on item relationships, in the inventory responsibility i gave the related item but on the sales order form after putting the item the related tab is is not enable, i think there are more steps to do so, like making a rule may be, kindly help me, if some one has the document of such kind of work so kindly upload it.
