alert log file size control and oratab related.

Hi All,

qyery 1:
=======

We all know that in oratab we have entries of oracle homes and oracle sids so that auto dbstart can occur while server is coming up provided if it is "Y".

in oratab we have options

Y-->databases will auto start.
N-->databases will not come up
W-->? why it is for.Is this for ASM home? Can you someone clarify this?

we all know when we remove the alert log it will create immediately and no problem for the database.Just for testing purpose I have removed the "diag" database on 11.1.0.7 database on test server and monitored the status of Instance.It is up and also once i gave "alter system switch logfile" immediately it is created the diag directory once again.
