Pre-Defined Search editing

Hi,

We have configured many, many searches to help our end users which I have always believed were veiwable for them review and add to if they require.

I have today discovered that when they use the "Click to show search controls" bar, all they get is "The Criteria for this search cannot be displayed".

What am I missing, what privilege have I failed to allow, as it escapes me?
