luxadm shows status as secondary on multipathed disks - no primarys

Has anyone ever seen luxadm display show all SAN lun paths on a mulitpathed disk as secondary or 3 paths secondary and one primary? Is a reboot the only way to resolve the issue?

The disks are unmounted and on server1 & mounted and in use on server2. I have been told that on both servers there should be primary and secondary paths, even if they are unmounted.

eg. luxadm shows all secondary statuses on server1, correct status is shown on server2. 

server1 - luns unmounted and metasets released to server2
