Archive area destination is getting filled above the threshold

I am getting alert "93% of archive area /u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.0/db_1/dbs/arch is used" for a standby database instance. Is there something that should be done about that? Why is it happening. I tries searching metalink but could not find anything useful
