How to clone VxVM root disk??

Good day to all!
Background:
We have VxVM mirrored root disk in V490. Recently the second disk is faulted and we have problem getting VxVM to recognise the new disk for vxdiskadm option 5 replacement. Only way is to reboot the system to redetect the new disk.
While waiting for maintenance window to reboot, I wonder if i can use dd command to clone the primary root disk to new disk, so in event if primary disk failed before we replace it, we can still boot up with the clone disk, as all data are on SAN.
Anyone tried??
Thanks/
Dylan
