Set up Shared services in EPM with oracle database 11gR2 'IO Error: The Network Adapter could not es

I am new to the hyperion products and this forum so firstly Hi everyone! 
I am creating an environment on a 2008 R2 virtual server on Virtual box, with Oracle Hyperion HFM and FDM 11.1.2.1, running on a Oracle database 11g r2.

When I attempt to set up shared services in the EPM system configurator I get the following error:  'IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection'



Install went fine, and testing the connection through 'pingtns' and 'SQL Plus' was also successful. 
The listener is configured on port 1521 and the service is started.
Firewall is completely disabled.
User I am attempting to connect with has tablespace and correct permissions.
