I have a question on using 20 GB T9840 cartridge….

Presently we are using 75 GB T9840D cartridges and have one mvcpool and the mvc begins with A0*(9840D  also we the 20 GB tapes labeled A0* as well….)

My question - since there are a couple hundred of these 20gb empty mvcs already defined in the mvcpool and their volsers are already reflected in the current cds-config.

Can we reinitialize those 200 (20 GB) tapes to compressed 80 GB?  I read that it can be done…but my concerns are will there be any issues such as  batch jobs running longer, writes longer, reads longer, problems at disaster recovery reading tapes, DB2 image copies takes longer than it used to be… or is it going to be similar like T9840D mvcs?

Howdy, Stranger!
