Is it possible to turn off the auto - close process so that regardless of how much is received again

We are in a Distributed Warehouse Management environment where the purchasing activity is controlled by Peoplesoft.  The desired behavior is for the status of a purchase order line to reflect the status coming from Peoplesoft.  Is it possible to disable the auto - close process on purchase order lines so that the lines  or purchase order only become closed when we close them via API?
