Registering and Backing up database with multiple RMAN catalogs

I've googled around and searched the forums without finding anything definitive.  Hopefully I'm not repeating an already resolved topic.
We have an Oracle database which was set up by an application vendor with their configured RMAN catalog and backup scripts.  We would like to set this up with our internal RMAN catalog and backups.  Is it possible to use both the vendor's configured catalog and scripts as well as our internal catalog/scripts and have both sets of backups running nightly?  I'm guessing even if this works one of the backups would need to NOT delete archive logs so the other can also grab them and then timing has to be carefully worked out so the one that deletes archived
