What exactly does "deprecated" mean?

I have read in a million places that Advanced Replication is "deprecated" in Oracle 12c.

I have hunted and hunted and I have been unable to find a definition of what "deprecated" means in this context.

Please point me to an Oracle definition of what "deprecated" means in this context, and/or to a discussion of what exactly is going to happen to Advanced Replication, and when.
