Real Application Testing

Wondered if people had any real world experience of configuring and using RAT ? ( 11.2.0.3 on Solaris ). We're about to start looking at automated testing as part of a move to regular patching / maintenance. Whilst we've a number of production Oracle systems, this is really being looked at in the context of a web based forms app ( 11g FMW ), although clearly RAT just applies to the database tier.
Wondering how people found it affected performance ( we have spare hardware capacity ), how easy it was to configure, were the results meangful etc ... Also, if anyone has experience of other products, would be interested to hear ....
