Demand not generating for BOM components

We have a BOM, where parent part (say part 'A') is defined as a 'Phantom' item. This BOM is not part of any other BOM, so this is the topmost part. My question is, will ASCP generate demand for components defined under part 'A' ? Components are not Phantom, only its Parent (part A) is Phantom. I appreciate any valueable inputs on this. Thanks in advance.
