Updating EPMA and refreshing versus updating EPMA and EAS (no refresh)

Hello All,

I am currently in Oracle Hyperion Plan Training. We have been instructed to make changes in EPMA and follow it with a refresh. While working with an implementation vendor we have been shown that you can update the item in EAS and EPMA to avoid the refresh. Are there any cons of using the second method that we may be overlooking?
