shipping execution(WSH) and transportation management(OTM)

Hi,I am a newbie to OTM but have some experience in WSH. Based on my understanding,

we can create a a trip in WSH and OTM
we can send/receive messages from carrier to and fro from WSH and OTM.

What specific advantages or features typically OTM offers and what are the advantages of using OTM.
Please share your thoughts, so I can get a good picture of these modules.
