Insert Privilege not working if select Privilege not granted

Hi,
     I need to insert a record in to a remote database table  using a DB link with user having only insert privilege, not having select privilege(The DB link has been created by the user on the remote database
having only insert privilege to the the table concerned).
but it is not working without select privilege. If select privilege granted then insert is working.
What might be the reason? how can resolve this issue?
