Update Activity field

Hello Gurus,

I am having an issue updating an Activity field.  I am trying to update this field in a work flow after a task is created.

So in the WF:

I create a task

I update a field in the task

I receive notification that WF fired

Look at the task and the field is still blank.

The field is an editable pick list

Also, when a task is created based on the completion of a prior task. 

Will the second task trigger if you use "When new record saved"
