Restore. . . . validate header when backup uses more than 1 tape

Hi,
   This is a simple question which, unfortunately, I lack the resources here on site to test for myself. The question is - using the RMAN 'restore. .  .validate header' option on a tape backup (Netbackup) where one or more backuppieces go across tape boundaries, if only the first tape is mounted does the 'validate' complete successfully or is an error output?

   Any thoughts you may have would be greatly appreciated.
