Role Switching -clearing log files in standby best practice

I have a primary-standby system configured using dataguard broker.  There is a document  1304939.1 recommending clearing redo log files in the targeted standby if they are not empty before performing a role switching.  I have been so far no very successful in following that.

My quick question is, if I just do a role switching to turn a standby into primary role, and if the switching is successful from dgmrl, can I assume that I wouldn't have to worry about data integrity issue after the switching?  What is the worst kind of scenario if the redo log aren't cleared in the standby when the switching takes place?

Howdy, Stranger!
