Re-using SAN LUNs for zones deployment may fail with message "ERROR Failed to create the image"

I've encountered problems when re-using SAN LUNs for zones deployment. The deployment job fails with: "ERROR Failed to create the image" and no further explanation.
It turns out that the problem is that the LUN has been used in a zfs pool earlier, and when Ops Center tries to create a new pool, it fails because the -f switch to zpool create is not used.

One can verify the existence of a previous pool with the command "zpool import" in the Global Zone, example:

root@solserv25:/etc/gdm# zpool import
  pool: z34acb16f-5f4a-4ab3-90d7-d388394e2184
