Optimizer stats on RMAN catalog schema

Are there any guidelines about running dbms_stats for the RMAN catalog schema?

I have an Oracle 10.2.0.4 database using the same release of the catalog schema, and just to the Oracle-provided DBMS scheduler job GATHER_STATS_JOB to run stats on this database.  It was sufficient, but lately, any REPORT command in RMAN or any "resync catalog" is taking longer and longer.  Should I be running dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats for the schema owner of the catalog schema???
