apex sql queries

I would like to use the query below in an APEX application.  I want to pass the variable  var2 into the query below.  I would like to do this from a screen where someone would enter in the var2   variable. Then, the results would be returned on a screenshot or web form.  I am really trying to read up on APEX but I cannlt seem to finds a method to do this.  I am certain there is a way.  I will contine to read thru docs and internet.  In the meantime, any help is appreciated.
