Inventory serial numbers stuck in 'resides in receiving' status

We have a small quantity of serial numbers that have a status of 'resides in receiving'

We cannot currently do anything with these serial numbers. They are not in inventory, they have no transactional history, and we cannot put them into inventory (have tried misc. receipt and job).

I also cannot find this part number in receiving anywhere to be received in either.

I'm not exactly sure how these serial numbers got there or how they got in this status.  Where should I look to clear these up so that they can be used?
