Submit Lockbox Processing

After application of several patches for Oracle Financials (R12.1.3) we now see that the Submit Lockbox Processing screen has an additional field to enter:  No of Instances

Anyone have input about this additional data field and what effect it has on processing?   We tested with a value of No of Instances=1, and job appears to run successfully.
