One HTML instance for 2 or more Enviroments

 Hi Everyone,
Can we utilize one HTML instance efficiently for 2 or more pathcodes simultaneously.
I know that we can make changes in pathcode section of JAS.ini section and specify different pathcodes to be used. But it has also been specified in server manager that using multiple pathcode configuration is known to give issues. Has anyone tried and tested it rigorously by using the same instance for two environments simultaneously?
Is there any specific setting that we need to take care of? Does it make any difference considering the platform used(AS400, Oracle etc)

Any insight,experience or input with this configuration is highly appreciated.
