Kanban - Status Update from FULL to EMPTY

Hi All,

How does kanban card status change from FULL to EMPTY?

As per my understanding this process is a Manual. User has to review the On hand and update the Kanban Card Status from FULL to EMPLTY, to replenish it. Am I right in my understanding? Or Am I missing something here?

If I am right in my understanding, what are the possible options to update the card status from FULL to EMPTY programmatically? Thanks for your inputs.
