PPR if the Period Status is "Future"

Hello Guys,
Does the Payment process request works if the Payment date used during the creation of the PPR is in Future, I mean the Period Status is Future.

I tried to create payment batch, but it completes with the status as Cancelled - No Invoices Selected. I have checked and there are eligible invoices for payments.

Any idea if this is a Bug or intended functionality?
