things to consider or test before implementing new backup software(EMC's AVAMAR) for Oracle database

We are planning to implement new database backup software  (EMC's AVAMAR) for the Oracle databases. We have 9i, 10g,11g databases running on AIX and  Linux.

Please add your comments what should we consider and test from Oracle database side before implementing any new backup software.
