Can a backup of a controlfile be cataloged in RMAN?

Oracle 11.2.0.3 Enterprise Edition.

If

ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO '/backup/oracle/controlfile.bkp';

is used to backup a controlfile, and that backup be catalogued into the RMAN catalog using

CATALOG CONTROLFILECOPY '/backup/oracle/controlfile.bkp';

is it possble to use that controlfile backup for recovery?
