Field to link Legacy System to Oracle EBS

Hello,

Can some one help me to figure out what will be the best field to link customers between the legacy system to Oracle Receivables ? We populate the ORIG_SYSTEM_CUSTOMER_REFERENCE and ORIG_SYSTEM_ADDRESS_REFERENCE with the customer number from the legacy system, but since this field is not updateable, if there is any mistake we cant  fix it. (The customers are being entered manually initially, lather a customer interface will be developed)

Can you please advice.
