Transalation running really long

We are new to translation and having issues with the Translation job running really slow.  We run translation for one ledger to convert from CAD to USD.  The job log indicates it is converting and insertign about 20,000record into the GL_BALANCES table.  The last time it ran in 19 hours.

The log file seems to indicate it spends a lot of time on this - SHRD0180: gltgnr - Performing action >> Locked gl_concurrency_control records

We have the prifle opyoin GL Translation: Revenue/Expense Translation Rule set to PTD

Any ides on how to speed this up?
